Dorothy in Motion is a tribute to jazz harpist Dorothy Ashby, rendered with reverence and rhythm. This was the first piece where I merged my love of patterned textiles with portraiture, using what the subject wears to reflect their essence. The patterned dress nods to both Ashby’s cultural legacy and her role in shaping music history.
 
Gold leaf accents illuminate the harp and its divine resonance—echoing the spiritual presence of the instrument and the woman who mastered it. The result is a portrait not just of a person, but of sound in motion, identity embodied, and legacy alive.
